The present invention relates to an apparatus for recording information on a recording medium and, more particularly, to an apparatus for recording information on a magnetic disc using a magnetic recording head.
As is well known, the principle of the apparatus for recording information on the magnetic recording medium such as a magnetic disc comprises a magnetic head which carries out recording and reproducing operations with respect to the magnetic disc and a drive system for moving the magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disc.
In the magnetic disc apparatus, there is provided a rotary drive system for rotating the magnetic disc and a linear drive system for moving the magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disc. The rotary drive system comprises an electric motor as a drive source, a rotary encoder for detecting the number of revolution of the electric motor, a motor shaft, a rotary output shaft coupled to the motor shaft, a rotary member attached to the rotary output shaft for transmitting the rotation of the rotary output shaft to the magnetic disc, and a bearing which supports the rotary output shaft for rotation.
The rotary output shaft of the rotary drive system is coupled to a rotary drive shaft. The linear drive system comprises an electric motor as a drive source, a motion conversion mechanism coupled to the electric motor for converting the rotation thereof into the linear movement of the magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disc, and a motion conversion mechanism for converting the linear movement of the magnetic head into the rotation of the rotary drive shaft.
In the rotary drive system, the rotary output shaft is coupled to the rotary drive shaft by a coupling mechanism in which the rotary output shaft is fitted into the rotary drive shaft with a predetermined gap therebetween. The rotary drive shaft is in turn supported by the bearings. In the case of such a conventional coupling mechanism, dust particles tend to enter into the gap between the rotary output shaft and the rotary drive shaft, or the rotary drive shaft and the bearings to make poor contact between them and the resulting problem is that dust particles are stuck to the magnetic head. In the case of the conventional apparatus, to avoid this problem, a cap for covering the gap between the rotary output shaft and the rotary drive shaft and a brush for rubbing off the dust particles are provided.
